First, a bit of context, because I love the science (but promise to keep it digestible).
Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body — including energy production, muscle contraction and relaxation, nerve transmission, glucose metabolism, hormone regulation, and more. It’s one of the essentials you can’t afford to skimp on.
Why I Created the Herbal Healing Magnesium & Sleep Range.
When I first began my journey into natural health, I was like many of you: juggling a busy life, trying to stay strong for workouts and everyday demands, yet always feeling that underlying tension, restless nights, and occasional muscle aches. Over time, I discovered that one mineral in particular was the missing link for so many of my clients — and for me too: magnesium.
As I talk to my customers of the benefits of my Mag Cream and Spray, I ask people, "did you know there are 7 types of magnesium". The most common answer is, you guessed it "no".
Not all magnesium is equal, and in this blog, I'll share with you the two different types of magnesium, that are most commonly used to primarily support muscles while the second targets the nervous system, and exactly how they work in the body.
Let’s dive in.
Why Magnesium Matters for Sleep, Stress, Muscle recovery:
It's More Than Just a Mineral
First, a bit of context, because I love the science (but promise to keep it digestible).
Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body — including energy production, muscle contraction and relaxation, nerve transmission, glucose metabolism, hormone regulation, and more.
It’s one of the essentials you can’t afford to skimp on. Yet modern life works against us. Stress, coffee, sugar, alcohol, heavy exercise, poor soil in food — all these deplete magnesium. I’ve seen (both in my body and in my customers) signs like restless legs, muscle cramps,
insomnia, anxiety, and tension headaches that often trace back to low magnesium.
As I learned more, I realized that not all magnesium is the same. The form matters — especially if you want targeted benefits for muscles, for nerves, or for sleep support. And that’s exactly the science I leveraged to build Herbal Healing’s Magnesium range and Deep Sleep Spray.
Magic Magnesium: The Muscle Angle (Local, Intense, Responsive)

Think: sore calves, post-run stiffness, or trigger points in your shoulders.
When you apply magnesium chloride topically (sprays, creams), the idea is to deliver magnesium locally to the tissues.
This is especially useful when you don’t want to flood your whole system with a high oral dose. Many people sense relief within minutes in the targeted area.
The ions work directly on muscle cell calcium channels, helping the local muscle relax.
It also helps quiet peripheral nerves that may be firing due to damage or overuse.
I often tell customers: “Spray a little magnesium onto the sore spot before bed; rub it in; you’ll often notice less tension in the morning, and less middle of the night cramps”
This is precisely why in my Magnesium Spray and Magnesium Cream, I formulate with a high-quality, skin-compatible magnesium chloride base — because it supports targeted muscular relief.
Magic Magnesium: The Nervous System / Sleep Angle (Systemic, Gentle, Balanced)

Think: anxious thoughts at night, racing mind, insomnia, adrenal tension.
Some magnesium forms (especially glycinate) get absorbed more steadily into the bloodstream and support pathways in the brain. That is, they help the “off switch” in your nervous system.
Magnesium also helps modulate receptors in the brain, which can reduce excitatory signaling when things are out of balance.
Over time, a balanced magnesium status helps regulate Hecortisol and stress hormones, which has profound downstream effects.
In my own life, I use my Sleep Spray blend with magnesium glycinate at night, I feel the difference in how quickly I drift into restful sleep (versus tossing and turning). That sense of “unclenching the brain” is real. Magic Magnesium is so versatile, you now know which is best for Sleep, Stress, Muscle recovery.
Next , I’ll share how I applied that knowledge into our Herbal Healing Magnesium Range, Magnesium Spray, Magnesium Cream, and our Sleep Spray (with magnesium) — and how you can use them in your daily life.
This logic guided me to create our Sleep Spray (with magnesium) — combining a relaxing magnesium form with calming botanicals to support the nervous system’s shift into rest mode.
Magic Magnesium Formulas for Sleep, Stress, Muscle recovery
How to Use: My Recommendations & Best Practices
Here are practical tips I share with customers
Oral / Ingested Magnesium (if you prefer tablets)
Start low. If you already have a magnesium-rich diet, a modest supplement is often enough.
Take in the evening or between meals for better absorption and reduced GI upset.
Choose the right form based on your needs (glycinate for calming)
Combine with other supplements if needed: vitamin B6, adequate vitamin D, and ensuring good digestion helps.
Herbal Healing Topical Spray and Cream
Apply to clean, slightly moist skin (after shower) — warm skin helps absorption.
Massage the spray or cream into sore areas (quads, calves, shoulders) — this combines absorption and circulation boost.
Try applying before bed to allow local absorption overnight.
If you feel tingling or itching at first, it’s often your body adjusting — start with low dose and increase.
Rotate application zones (legs, arms, feet) to let skin renew.
Magnesium Spray
My Magnesium Spray is formulated with high-purity magnesium chloride in a skin-friendly ionic solution, allowing for trans-dermal absorption. You can spritz it onto sore muscles, tired calves, or any tight area, then gently massage it in.
Because I use a composition optimized for skin comfort, many customers report a warming, soothing sensation (rather than harsh sting). I've also added oils of peppermint and eucalyptus to assist with inflammation and heat.
This spray is perfect if you have areas of tension, or if you want to support local muscle recovery.
Magnesium Cream
My Magnesium Cream combines the same magnesium chloride base, enriched with nourishing botanical oils (like Shea butter, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, for skin nourishment). The cream is ideal when you want deeper skin hydration along with magnesium support. I've also added oils of peppermint and eucalyptus to assist with inflammation and heat.
Because creams stay longer on the skin, they allow for a slower, sustained local release. I often suggest applying cream to areas that need both soothing + moisture — e.g. knees, shins, shoulders.
Herbal Healing Sleep Spray / Nervous System Application
Spray when you jump into bed.
Spray onto pulse points, chest, on soles of your feet, 2pumps in the air and 2 pumps on your pillow
Take a few deep, calming breaths after application to engage that mind-body connection.
For extra benefit, couple with a gentle ritual: dim lights, herbal tea, screen-off time.
Feedback from Tina - (a customer)
"Good morning, I met you at the Fielding show and brought some Sleep Spray,. OMG, I had the best sleep for months, did as you recommended and under my feet. Thank you I'll be recommending to my friends, looking forward to another good sleep tonight. I just wanted to say a big thank you"
Herbal Healing Deep Sleep Spray
This one is very dear to my heart. It is a success with all my customers.
My Deep Sleep Spray features a calming magnesium glycinate paired with soothing herbs like lavender, Ylang ylang, and Cedarwood.
The idea is to promote nervous system relaxation and ease into sleep. You spray it as outlined above. Breathe deeply, and let it guide your mind-body into rest mode.
If you want to add to your sleep ritual, drink a cup of Sleep Tea [with Valerian Root] or Sleep Tea Alternative Blend [AB - with Skullcup & Passionflower [relaxant].
F A Q's on Magic Magnesium
Because I talk to real people all the time, I know the questions you might be asking (or anticipating). Let me answer them openly and plainly.
Q: Does topical magnesium (spray/cream) really work, or is it just marketing?
A: That’s a fair question. While rigorous large-scale trials are still limited, there is emerging evidence (and many anecdotal reports) that topical magnesium may help local pain, muscle tension, and nerve discomfort.
What I believe (based on my experience and client feedback) is that topical forms help locally in ways oral forms can’t — especially when you want targeted relief without upping your systemic magnesium. That said, we always encourage balancing both internal and external magnesium for best results.
Q: Is there a risk of too much magnesium?
A: In healthy people with normal kidney function, excess magnesium is generally excreted in the urine. However, in people with severe kidney disease, cardiac conduction issues, or neuron-muscular disorders, one should proceed with caution or under medical supervision.
Always follow product dosing instructions. (Also, some people may experience mild skin tingling or flushing when first using topical magnesium — it usually quiets over time.)
Q: Which product do I start with — spray, cream, or sleep spray?
A: Start with whichever pain point or issue is most pressing. If your muscles are screaming, begin with the Magnesium Spray.
If not getting quality sleep is your main problem, grab the Sleep Spray paired with the Sleep Tea. Over time, layering them yields the best synergy.
Q: How long until I see results?
A: Many people notice a change immediately with the Magnesium Spray and combined with other support remedies, within the week — cramp-free nights, less tension, more ease in movement. But deeper systemic balancing (especially nervous system) often takes 3–4 weeks of consistent use.
Q: Are these safe during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or with medications?
A: While magnesium is generally considered safe in recommended doses, always check with your healthcare provider if you’re pregnant, nursing, or on medications (especially diuretics, blood pressure meds, or cardiac meds).
Also patch test topical sprays or cream if you have sensitive skin.
Your Next Step to incorporate Magic Magnesium into your daily rituals.

I genuinely believe (from my personal journey and the stories of hundreds of customers) that combining targeted topical applications, an intenal support and a sleep-support spray / sleep tea is the optimal path.
